me,myself actually don't fully believe on what is on internet.But,news from the official  newspaper's website like The Stars and New Straits Times Online,website that give real news and proofs.Some,website that share tutorial are fully reliable and real,because those website provide real information to users.In addition,mostly those information giving website give real information to others,but in social network it is reverse of information giving website.Social Network contain a lot of what we call *trolls-fake and useless* information.Compare to websites,social networking website is more active then websites,people online every days and post what they feel every seconds.In the same time,some people spread unhappy news about someone's behind and hide it from that specific person.Then,the bad news just spread without real proof,and people keep ignore any message from the person and spread the news more widely without even meet the person face to face or know he/her real personalities and the real problem behind.When i see this spread news,i will think before I act on it because mostly they are not real or just simply a stress release post but some people that took it serious and spread it wide without thinking.

For me I believe in websites more then social network website as all the answer they given and post are mostly real and proof.Well,social networking website just a self-release website to express random things and socialize unless someone that you know in real life inform you.It is better to think when you see anything from the social networking website.In the end,I only believe the content website that share information like tutorial and news but not for social networking website.It is true that internet is truly a complicated places for me.Like what the video shows , the wall of internet block the truth behind.To know the truth it is better to push down the internet wall and discover yourself.

Technology has become so advanced in 21th century, especially the internet and World Wide Web (www). Even a normal people without much knowledge about technology could find information in the internet efficiency and effectively. But the question is, do the information given in the internet is telling the fact or falsify?

Internet is a convenient tool for people in this new millennium, the 21th century, people are racing with time and want job to be done fast. When it comes to handy for work, searching internet has become a habit for most people to get more and useful information. Anyone can easily search the internet, as same as changing the information in the internet. It is easy found false information in the internet, since most of the web-page does not have copyright reserved.

Information can create and delete whenever the user of the internet who post on it, it does not need to take any responsible even giving fake information won't make a person to court. The internet has variety of social network such as Facebook, Friendster, Blogger who give people freedom to write about their daily life and experience. For some people they would write some information base on their opinion, but not base on the truth or fact, not even having research for information about it, because it takes time to search something as they does not like to waste their time.

But for some web-pages such as company official web-site or government web-page, it does have copyright on their page. It is not easy to make a single change on these web-pages, even hacker who manage to go into it will be caught from the technique of the company. Go to court will happen to those who tried to falsify their official-site. These web-pages are very reliable, information given are base on truth, because false information will lead them to be sue.

For examples, Wikipedia is a web-page that comment people like to reliable for its information included me. This is because Wikepedia has their own copyright and private policy. Most of their information had proved about which note and what kind of external link that they based on. This webpage also listed out useful further reading to viewer to reference

Lastly, internet could be trust, base on where the information found and who given the information.

Yes, I often take what is on the internet as truth, but only after I put some thought in it, asking other people's opinions or even people world wide. And as an addition, this is also what forums and 'Yahoo Answers' for!


No doubt that the internet is the biggest source of information comparing to any other libraries and the knowledge of a person. Wikipedia, as an online encyclopedia, has has a total of 3,678,826 articles and there are many more other articles in internet that provide unlimited sources. Hence, other from books and experience, it is for sure that I am dependent on the internet.


My method of avoiding fake or inaccurate information is to use the resources in the internet as the first resource, rather than the final resource. I will then verify the truth by having other people's opinions or by reviewing other resources.

I am totally not often taken what is on the Internet as TRUTH. This is because everyday the information given online may be change. So, I am not the one who often taken what is on the Internet. More or less peoples may affect by the thought, ideas, opinion or any suggestions which can find on internet. The audiences may automatically take it as granted, they not even believe or take note from their surroundings information, and not even trusted what they see with their own eyes. They are more preferred to search their answer from internet. So, what for we need to go to school? Since everything can be learn online. Nowadays, peoples are active in Facebook, there are lots of note or article that can be read especially on the topic of love such as "Requirements to be a perfect boyfriend". Besides, youngsters like to view those note which about their horoscope. They even follow the content which stated and attempt to change themselves to what do the note have written.

Here an is example that I would like to share. Recently, my friends and I have joined PIKOM Digital Lifestyle Expo 2011 at the KLCC convention center. When we reach there, we found that it was not as big as we thought. As compare with previous years, this was called a small event actually. I told them it was not a PC fair, it was just a small expo. They do not believed what I told them until they go back and search from internet, they just found out the truth that I told them. This have totally reflect that peoples are more rely on internet more than getting answer face to face from friends.

This is the topic which I need to discuss with my team members. If you ask me, I will reply honestly that I will rely on the information on certain websites. But, for sure not those from Facebook or Twitter and Friendster. This is because the above sites are social sites and most of the users of those sites like to put some false information to all the people and majority of the people will tend to believe blindly without knowing they are invalid ones. Somehow, I do also believe some information through th internet. The reason is simply because nowadays it seems that everyone will rely on the information gathered on wikipedia, google, yahoo,etc. For example, if we want to conduct some research on our assignment, we will always type the keyword into google sites. After that, we will filter out the websites given and will tend to focus on the top sites found. Next we will rely on the resource found at those pages. This shows that no matter how, people nowadays surely will depend on the internet and those information are considered to be the truth since everyone is following them. As a result, I believe that the internet do provide genuine information(truth) but at the same time it will also provide fake information(wrong information). Hence, we as the new generation of the internet user, we must learn to filter the information so that we will not easily being treated as the idiots by those hackers or even the people who spread the wrong information to us. Come to think about it, otherwise the situation will be more critical and it will reach a very dangerous level if we do play our role well in using the internet.

Internet is a way to let people search or find information easier. We can easier to find any information on internet in a short time. I think 99% of people in the world also know how to use internet to search information. So that，internet is playing an important role in our life. Although internet can easy to get information but can we believe that all the information on the internet is true?


My answer is NO because website is allows anyone to update and post information. We also  don’t know the people who create or write the information ,So we cannot simply trust it. . As convenient as the Internet is, it is not always so reliable for gathering accurate information. So, we cannot simply trust all the information on the internet. Some people like to make rumours to misleading other people; same like the cartoon even are children also know how to put information to the internet and he is upload wrong information to misleading other people. Therefore, we must distinguish what is the information that we can trust.

Before that, I saw an article is about the world will be end on 21 of May. I seriously trust this news in that time but now already July and we still alive in this world. So, what can I said is the news is not real and it is just a rumour. Some of the information is correct and some information is just a rumor.So ,we should filter out all the information after we search on the internet. 

In conclusion, the more important that we search information on the internet is we must distinguish what information that really can trust. Please don't simply believe all the information on internet, between you must take some research to prove it, before you trust this information.

Truth, Pranks, Internet

Nowadays, with the advent of the modern networking of the Net, we actually able to convey, modify and receive any information that we like through the Internet. For the first time in our lives, the masses of consumers manage to become the authors of our consuming product - information, news. Grasped this lifetime opportunity as granted, we fervently posting our thought, feeling and comments and sometimes informing others of the truth in our point of view.

But there are much unrest and uncertainty in the liability and sides that the truth we shared. Much of our information comes with our own judgement, analysis and the sides that we chose in gathering and generating the related infos. Sometimes, we feel boring and craved a thrive of seeing the turmoil and chaos of alerted bloggers on false emergency and secret matters unleashed through the Net. Although just an idea of a joke, the uproar of web dwellers nowadays is equal to the unrest of the public. We may just crossed the uncrossable border in spreading pranks.

At the end, the consumer of all information generated is us, the consumers. We have the choice of ignoring despite it is truth and inciting unrest instead of clearing the false news. All that left for us is listen, see and feel with our mind and choose whether to believe or not after serious consideration.

Yes and no. To be frankly, there is no definite answer in this question. The Net is just a tool of conveying and comunicating, created by Men and must be decided by Men himself. After all, there is an old proverb : 'There will be no wave if there is no wind'. Not everything is true but a part of it may originate from the truth. If there is no such thing or the possibilty of it, the spreading of the so-called 'spams' or pranks wouldn't have effect. Human is a being of speculation. We always weighing any possibility.

Another way around, what written on the internet does not necessary to be true. So often we take the change of joking and guessing. Why yes! We do like to crack our mind like Sherlock Holmes do. It is the nature of Men. We will have to aware that a prank or casual comment as meaningless it can be could start a catalysm rolling and drops of water could mould a hole on a stone in time in anywhere and of course applicable in the Net without boundary.

Last word to bloggers. Believe what you want to believe doesn't mean others will believe what you believe. Your truth and justice is only for you. There are varies of measurement of truth for different people. If all you want is just information relating, be neutral and view from the point of an observer, silent yet sharp.

Honestly speaking, sometimes I do take what is on the internet as the truth without thinking much about it but because I don't really the news online so it seldom happen to me. Normally I get updates of any news from facebook. Facebook is now the most common media sharing page you can find. No longer do I need to go to any certain websites to update myself. Some news may be fake, some news may not. We can't trust the internet totally.

When we saw something interesting or disgusting, we might think of it as the real truth without further thinking about other possiblities because we're so delighted or disgusted to hear or learn about the news. But, when we see something not so interesting, nothing of your interest, just some boring news, we wouldn't care less about it because it doesn't grab our attention although it's the TRUTH!

Recently, on facebook, there is this so-called event about free facebook t-shirt and shoes. Suddenly, there's also i-phone! It's so tempting, isn't it? Besides, all you have to do is click attending, like their page, invite all your friends and write on the event "wall" that your're attending and your size. To me, this is obviously a scam. By just writing on the event "wall", how are they going to deliver those goods to you? They do not know where you live or what's your mailing address. So, how? Have you ever wondered about it? Most of the people there have fallen for it and some is just playing along.

What's the purpose of doing that, you ask? The purpose of them doing that is to get people to like their page. When they hit a certain number of likes they want, they can sell the page off at a very high price because you already have a lot of people supporting it even without them knowing. Starting a brand new page may take forever to get so many likes. Therefore, by creating that event like that can, you can have millions of like in just maybe an hour or so. They might have the "business brains" like what the Chinese would normally say but they have already cheated many people.

So, do you still want to take what you see on the Internet as the truth? Yes? No? It's self preference, anyway. It's your own choice but most importantly, check the source of it first before confirming it's the truth.

So, is a blogger a journalist? Certainly, some organizations have begun to legitimize Web logs as a valid grassroots form of journalism. In 2004, bloggers for the first time received press passes to cover the conventions during the Presidential elections. They have broken major news stories. Several prominent bloggers have become media pundits. And mainstream media outfits, including Business Week Online, are developing blogs to complement their traditional outlets. 

Why do more bloggers consider themselves journalists these days? Well for starters, it’s cool to be a journalist. That’s not the result of the study, that’s just a guess. It is clear that bloggers are gaining more and more influence. Audience size is growing for many, and collectively bloggers have a reach equal to or greater than traditional media across many categories. Bloggers and traditional outlets are both equipped with the ability to rapidly spread information across the Web at the same pace. In my opinion, I think that a blogger could be considered a journalist. Many bloggers write newsworthy topics and in this day and age when the lines are blurred between print and electronic media, does it really make a difference whether the header is an image from the George’s Wide World of Wacky Crap? I am not sure it does make a difference. At the most base premise, a journalist researches a topic and writes an article on what they have found. 

Now, I would like to share a person, her name is Shellee Hale. doesn't have a journalism degree. But the Washington state mother of five has four blogs and a passion for exposing security breaches in the online pornography business. So, when a New Jersey software company sued Hale for slander when she wrote about an alleged security breach at their company, the blogger came up with a unique defense: She's a journalist.

well,i cant fully agree or disagree for this as bloggers share information not only the political side and also entreatments info.They are information provider to us-the reader to know more about things that we want to know more.Some bloggers provide magazine scans for fashion lovers,polities view for politics concern people,tutorials for software learner,artworks showcase for critics and feedback,stuffs to sell and promote for shopping lovers.bloggers voice their opinion and take the information from somewhere and share out to others, for journalist they are not,they go to the true scene and record thing that what they hear and what they see and send to the newspaper publish head quater for publishing.In addition, bloggers tend to update at random time and somehow may not update their blog,journalist need to update often and quick for publishing as this is their job and source of income.But,we mostly believe in journalist more then bloggers.bloggers just corrects datas and compile it filter the importance and post it,they didn't earn any from it but just to make their reader.Both of them is important as they are data and news informer.BUT definitely bloggers and journalist are 2 different kind people.

Everyone had their own opinion saying that blogger is a journalism, true or false. People now are using blogger to write anything they want, their own feeling , their experiences, what they observe, what you want o say, etc. Just like now, I am using blogger too to write down my own view. Therefore, we can see that some bloggers can be say as journalism but some where not.

To those whom that I say bloggers is a journalisms, yes they maybe did not had the great writing skill like the journalism, but those bloggers providing some useful intersting imformation or link sources in their article. This sometimes is shows bloggers is better than journalism. How can someone totally say that a blogger is totally not a journalism? There is a possibility that a journalism is writing a article and post it via blogger. The world is so many journalisms, you can't guarantee that every single publisher will publish all those journalism works, or maybe sometimes those journalism wanted to share their experience and posted it free via internet.

Well, there are also lots of bloggers can be say are not a journalisms. There are a commont say that 'Bloggers write because they want to while journalists write to get paid, and they have their qualification becoming journalism.'. However, commont know that blogger is a public media tent to write what people know, think and feel. To those bloggers who were not recognize as a journalism, you can see the difference through the writing skill. Journalists give facts and prove on their work, while some blogger post their article without giving any strong resources to support their article. That is why readers cannot support and agree their article.

Bloggers or Journalists?

The similarity is obviously shown in between bloggers and journalists. Their main purpose is to deliver contents to the audience. However, there are still many differences that can differentiate bloggers and journalists and they although are those who form the media, however they both have different motives.

Bloggers share ideas, information and feelings and the more truthful it is, the more valuable it is as the content created by bloggers are consumed and being discussed, corrected or even being criticized by people worldwide. Journalists however, create content for the mass media as they are being paid and the editors or the organisations controls the flow of content to deliver messages they think are true to the audiences. The truthful of the content are often depend to the content publishers. News that are being published earliest are often considered the most valuable among journalists.

Hence, in my opinion, since both of them provides the same functionality, why not support the more truthful ones?

As our world stepped in to the third millenium, the flow of information become faster and sometimes instant. The improved communication of networking and internet has vastly eased the work of information and news reporters. Nowadays, some take upon the role of online reporting and journaling a mission for bridging and connecting information from one to one. They are the one now we known as bloggers. If I must say, bloggers definitely is replacing the work of journalism with firm procession. Newspapers still a habit of masses but the margin are dropping as internet provide an instant view of news and nothing to disposed of after in addition of the outcry of enviromental factors. But nothing is flawless as the faster the information received the more the questions of liability concern. Sometimes the information turn out bias to some parties. False warnings are frequent as some treat the concern of others as an oppoturnity of jokes and crimes.

Unless newpapers corporations turn for online database establishment for news archiving and journalists themselves turn to web developers, it is and will be hard to follow, best and dominate in this ever brilliant war of information reporting.

         Before I start my point, i want to know what is blogger and journalists. As I know, blogger is the people who write something on her/his blog. What is blog? Blog is a website that a writer can use to share and post her/his idea, opinion and thoughts to everyone. It is like online diary that we can share our thoughts and we can update everyday. What is a journalist? As I know that journalists is someone that write or search something news, information and entertainment for the magazine and newspaper. The Merriam Webster definition of a journalist is a writer or editor for a news medium.

Are blogger journalists? For me, blogger is not journalists because there are two different of thing. Blogger is based on individual opinion and journalist is based on fact and data collection. Blogger is just sharing something like video, picture or some note to everyone and it also can comment persistent. Journalists is a job who reporting and recording news, information and entertainment to the world. Blogger is not a full time job and it is just personal or can be said as part time. Otherwise, journalists are a full time job and they need to find different information, news and entertainment to the world and other in everyday. Blogger also can write something that out of their expression and they just sit in front of the computer and start to write and share or post something on their blog and they no need always update their blog. Journalists need to always go out and find information or news to their audience and they also need to record, report and upgrade the news in every day and every time.

           Besides that, journalists are get money from their information. Blogger also can find some money from their blog but is not all the blogger can do that. That is the different. Why i said that? Because some of the people who write or edit the blog is very interesting and they can attract a lot of people visit or see her/his blog in everyday, so some of the advertising company will find them and put some advertising in their blog to attract people. This is the way that let blogger can earn some money.

           In conclusion, blogger and journalists are two different of things. Blogger is just sharing his thoughts to everyone and journalists are need to record, report and upgrade the news to everyone.

What is blogging? Actually, the term of blogging is abbreviated from the term of "weblog" which is used to describe web sites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of information. Then, what is journalism? It is considered to be the practice of investigation and reporting of events or even trends to the readers. Some said that blogs are in fact journalism. However, I do not really agree with this point. If you ask me, I would like to say that they are indeed similar but not having the same meaning. For example, bloggers is in fact writing something that they know, but they are not necessarily correct. In fact, bloggers will voice out their own thoughts and feelings. However, journalists will write anything but based on facts. There are some cases whereby the bloggers put some of their thoughts onto their blogs and some viewers really taking into consideration on what are being written.  Hence, many people have the misconception of bloggers are same as journalists.

In your opinion, do you think that bloggers are journalists?

According to the given article, here and here, both of it didn't clearly state that bloggers are journalists. Instead, they make a review as to why bloggers are known as bloggers and journalists are known as journalists.

So, what makes the difference between bloggers and journalists?

Well, as most of us know, journalists write to get paid. That's a fact. They will interview someone then will maybe only write just a sentence or two quoted from the person and the rest of it are totally wrong. They write to the public and get paid by their bosses and hopefully they did nothing wrong to offend anyone until they're in a high risk of being sued. It's their job to write and they do it for their living. The product of their writing will end up either in the newspapers articles or magazines.

On the other hand, bloggers are very much different. They write what they feel and what they want people to know. They don't do that to get paid. They're doing it on their own free will. Most of the time, people do believe what's it's written there. Although they are not certified journalists, they still have their rights to write what they want.Bloggers are also known as Web Diarist. They write their diaries and publish it online to let everyone see what they did, where they when, their feelings and everything you write on a diary. Some even use blogs to make money out of it by asking their friends to share it to everyone.

In the end, are bloggers still journalists? Yes but they're are not the certified journalists that make publications online.

Mass media became one of the main sources of popular culture in modern capitalist society. While transferring news and entertaining people, media also indirectly transfer stereotype ideas, beliefs and value of society.
Media elements that being transferred to the vast society is then becoming world wide and media producers concern about transferring media that people in the society can accept. Therefore, creating the phenomena of media stereotypes today.


The media is full of economic, gender and ethnic stereotypes, from the roles of good guys and bad guys in video games to the hero from the animated films our youngest children enjoy. As I am a movie lover, I am going to talk about stereotypes that is presented in movies.


A very obvious stereotype that presented in all of the movies was the dependency of women upon men. Male characters always participated in helping a female-character to reach the success.

In Spiderman, the female main character is always the one that is needing the help from the male main character. Main character of Blue Crush received an important advice from a young man she fell in love with, and, therefore, managed to win the competition. And, in A League Of Their Own most of the women lived with the thoughts about their husbands who were fighting in the war.




I certainly can't buy the stories to convey stereotypes merely as entertainment sometimes and I think it is very important that people are able to recognize the stereotypes. Other from that, children should also be taught from the schools what are the stereotypes that exist in society and how one should understand them, so that they, first of all, did not reproduce the existing stereotype, and, secondly, did not except everything what they see in movies, press or Internet for the pure truth.


I believe media stereotypes should be eliminated from the society as it affects the society indirectly on the mind and culture of the society.

Before we get ourself into media stereotyping, basically how you all define the term of stereotype? It reflects the ideas of oversimplification of the community towards certain people. A stereotype can be embedded in single word or phrase (such as, "jock" or "nerd"), an image, or a combination of words and images. The image evoked is easily recognized and understood by others who share the same views. However, stereotypes can be either positive ("black men are good at footballs") or negative ("women are very weak and not sui"). But most stereotypes tend to make us feel superior in some way to the person or group being stereotyped. Stereotypes ignore the uniqueness of individuals by painting all members of a group with the same brush.

Stereotypes can appear in the media because of the biases of writers, directors, producers, reporters and editors. But stereotypes can also be useful to the media because they provide a quick identity for a person or group that is easily recognized by an audience. When deadlines loom, it's sometimes faster and easier to use a stereotype to characterize a person or situation, than it is to provide a more complex explanation.


 As for media stereotype, it comprises of the following elements: advertisements, TV show, movie, video game, commercial or even a song. Even so, I think that the advertisements do leave strong effect towards the mindset of the community. Why do I say so? This is because the advertisements do affect us in terms of our thinkings. For example, if when the children see the advertisement of KFC(Kentucky Fried Chicken) chicky meal, they will try to ask their parent to buy that meal for them because this meal always come with small kids toys. Nowadays, the popular kids toys are transformers: Ironhide, Optimus Prime, Starscream, and BumbleBee..and these really catch the attention of the eyes of those kids. This shows that commercial or advertisements do easily affect one's mindset.


In short, the use of advertisement can really affect us and this indirectly will create a new generation of stereotyping. Hence I do agree with Kay's pointing out that media stereotype should be eliminated from the society as it affects the society indirectly on the mind and culture of the society.

it means the media like TV,radio and other media that are inevitable, especially in the advertising, entertainment and news industries, which need as wide an audience as possible to quickly understand information. Stereotypes act like codes that give audiences a quick, common understanding of a person or group of people—usually relating to their class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation.

not only in others country,instead our is also effected by media stereotype.For example,movies which related to races to our country,chinese movies almost all are about kung fu fighting,indian movies are mostly about singing and dancing in groups to attract females,malay movies are probably ghost related topic(local movies).But in realities are opposite from what the movies portray.In addition, not only the Tv,the magazine itself too especially in the advisement section-cosmetics,they always advertise that after using their products,guys will attracts by the beauty effect of the products.It reflects that girls just focus on beauty no others things but this is not the truth.There is a lot of "beautiful" females out there which are not their appearance but their inner beauty.In the front cover of certain magazines using well-known models with well-build body to advertise their magazines.Do u realise that mostly magazine have beautiful ladies and musculine-well build guys??well,for sure you always see it in every magazines'cover.
   
       I hope that the stereotype from media should be destroy,and newest generation should avoid and be more creative,step up away from media and walk out from their house and observe the world more detail rather then rely it too much.

A stereotype is a popular belief about specific social groups or types of individuals. The concepts of "stereotype" and “prejudice” are often confused with many other different meanings. Stereotypes are standardized and simplified conceptions of groups based on some prior assumptions. (Wikipedia.com)

Stereotypes act like codes that give audiences a quick, common understanding of a person or group of people—usually relating to their class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation.

Besides that, stereotypes can be problematic:

· reduce a wide range of differences in people to simplistic categorizations

· transform assumptions about particular groups of people into "realities"

· be used to justify the position of those in power

· perpetuate social prejudice and inequality

The media often uses and misrepresents stereotypes. Foe examples, character such as Apu in TV shows, the Simpsons, are a high discriminated and stereotyped. Apu is characterized as an Indian immigrant, who prays to Ganesh, and hold a highly noticeable and dissimilar accent. This is a stereotype which is watch by a large number of audience especially the young. Young children observed and perceived as humorous. They apply this knowledge towards those they meet in real-life. Audiences of this show believe this information to be completely accurate for they hold litter or no knowledge about that particular group.

For another example, the movies of Shrek are an animation film that related with fairy tales. I believe plenty of young children had been told fairy tale as bedtime story. They also enjoy watching animation and cartoon movies. During that age, kids always believe in what they been observes. Some of them were depth ‘poison’ by those happily ever after ending, and causing them to become unreality and live in fantasy world which full with prince and princes, castle, crown, stepmother and so on. The movies of Shrek show a different stereotype in common fairy tales animations which in the end, princess choose the ogre but not the prince a. This movie also show all the true of fairy tales such as Sleeping Beauty can’t fall asleep after slept for hundreds of years, or Prince Charming is only good looking but in bad character, and etc. Lately, more and more animation shows the overturn of fairy tale stereotype such as Enchanted and Tangle. These movies show that princess did not choose marry to a prince or a warrior, and princess can be brave in fighting to rescued their love one.

I know that once we get relieve of one stereotype, another will take its place. I think it is important that people are able to recognize the stereotypes. The schools should educate children about the stereotypes that exist in society and one should understand them. This is to not reproduce the existing of stereotype and also will not except everything what they see in movie, internet and magazine for pure true.

As far as I know, stereotypes is a common definition for a group characteristics.
Some would said Pepsi and Cokecola when mentioned of carbonated drinks while others might said Mountain Dew or Sprite. It is defined differently by differently group and characteristics of people by what they know, what they like. Often this kind of thought is regarded as the general assumption of the popular as most of people think in that kind of thought. In a sense stereotypes is both allies and rivals to designers as for commercial advertising they need to apply stereotype so that people know what they want to promote but another way a round for other creative works they need to think outside of the box meaning stereotypes are becoming boulders that need to climb for designers. Stereotypes are defined according to the pace of the time with the emergence of new creation or foundation, means stereotype change with the world. Yesterday it might be JFK but for today Obama is the President of the United States as we know.

Some examples, when come to singers and celebrities definitions are diversely varied. Britney Spears, Madonna, Rihana, Halle Berry, Justin Timberlake, Bruce Wills, or some prefer Eastern entertainments. One of the best know will be your friendly neighbourhood, ...... The rest you know. Flowers for some might be roses but others might prefer morning glory, hibiscus and bougainvillea.

Stereotypes is vastly and widely dispersed according to person to person. But they can be classified and targeted by ages. These target will either be the clients or just some dumb assumption that need to be crossed.

Media Stereotype By Tai Qiu Xian

Stereotypes are ideas about people of other particular groups, based primarily on membership in that group. Stereotypes have existed in our everyday life through media. I give an example. Did you guy believe Superman really can fly? In the movie, Superman is a handsome, brave and muscular guy. But if the superman is thin and not handsome, did you guy still can imagine that he is a superman? Superman is really the man of steel? And wears red underwear outside walking shamelessly in front of the public, is it the true superman really exist that way, in such a manner? Because media stereotypes is affect us since our childhood days and enclose our really superman creativity and imaginative. Stereotypes shows that superman have to be this way and that way. Why can’t we think that Superman , he might be strong but he is just an ordinary human and have weakness like humans do, and not some stone spell.

This is because this character is already stereotypes in our mind. A lot of teenagers or children after watched this movie, they will copy and follow those dangerous action in the movie which is wear a cloth and strapped to his neck, wear his/her red and smoothly underwear and act like superman try to fly from highest place moreover will do a lot of stupid act to show off.

I give another example. we judge in the movie, know that Kungfu people is what kind of person like,is wearing a robe, face look like justice and they are very agile and active in the movie, then most of the people would judge that the artist is playing a Kungfu pole, although they did not pull any moves or any Kungfu action. Why we will make this such judgments? This is because in our daily lives, we often see person who practice martial arts are all wearing robes, full of gas, agile. So we already stereotype that know Kungfu people is that way, even if we have not seen any Kungfu movie, when we see those movie is about Kungfu then we will determine that they are known Kungfu, because we already  stereotype in everyday life, they are the people know Kungfu.

Stereotypes got positive and negative .Just depend how people feel and understand the meaning of the media.

Stereotypes are generalizations about a group of people whereby we attribute a defined set of characteristics to this group. These classifications can be positive or negative, such as when various nationalities are stereotyped as friendly or unfriendly.


Whenever you see, hear, or taste something, you can only tell so much about it based on what you sensed. This often is not enough, so we make assumptions about what the rest of the thing is like, when people hear "bird", they probably think of something that is fist-sized, flies, and sings, even though none of these things are true about every single bird. When a set of such assumptions about something become "common knowledge," they form a stereotype. Most of the time, nobody notices, as in the case of birds. Sometimes the assumptions that come with a stereotype cause people to behave strangely and callously towards one another; sometimes people resist changing their assumptions even when they are given very good reasons to do so.

To change a person’s view of your stereotype, be consistently different from it. Beware of your own stereotyping blinding you to the true nature of other individuals. Stereotyping can be reduced by bringing people together. When they discover the other people are not as the stereotype, the immediate evidence creates dissonance that leads to improved thoughts about the other group. 


Currently, I would like to share about the media stereotypes which is on magazines. Magazines are everywhere. They are proudly displayed in bookstores, gas stations, and the most memorable place, the check out at grocery stores. Magazines are full of useful information and juicy gossips, two things people apparently cannot live without. Some magazines also seem to be dictating unrealistic gender stereotypes, sending subliminal messages to both men and women. After perusing some magazines the conclusion might be drawn that magazines are portraying men and women in a unrealistic terms, providing messages to men and women about how they should look, act, shop, etc.

Before any discussion of gender in lifestyle magazines can be considered, it is important to be 
clear on the difference between sex, gender and sexuality.


• Sex refers to a person’s biological sex: whether they are male or female.
• Gender refers to the role or behaviours a person has been socialised into according to their 
   sex, whether they are masculine or feminine.
• Sexuality refers to a person’s sexual preference: whether they are heterosexual, homosexual  
   or bisexual.


The issue of gender is not static. Acceptable behaviour for each sex changes over time. Contemporary ideas of masculinity and femininity will be different to those of previous generations. For example, your grandmother would probably not, enter a pub alone and order a pint of beer, whereas young women today may well do just that.
In our society there are certain attributes and behaviours which are seen to be more appropriate for one sex than the other. The following opposing lists illustrate how men and women are seen to be different:

Topic: From your personal experiences and research, what other media stereotypes (besides the example from the documentary) have you seen either on TV, magazines or in the movies?




Stereotyping is very common nowadays thanks to the influence of social media. From the example given, we can see that Hollywood labelled Arabians as thiefs and robbers. As for the real life Arabians, not all of them are thiefs and roobers, they are just ordinary people like us. Hollywood uses social media as a form of labelling many types of people.

As you and I can see from our university life, we have friends from around the world. For example, Africa. Many people have a mindset that people in Africa doesn't wear much clothes, live in tribes, go hunting for food and live outside in the open near the jungle in a tent they built. If that is true, then how come that people from Africa can come to Malaysia and study? The way they dress is no different from us. The own a laptop, a phone, etc. What makes us think that they live near the jungle in their own tribe? Well, this is because Hollywood produce movies that shows the African living in that way and because we have never seen or experience their lifestyle, media affects our thinking. It input us with that kind of mentality.

Let's talk about something more common, they way we dress, here, in Malaysia. The Chinese people, for example. How many of them have you seen wearing Cheongsam or Samfu on normal days? You may have seen people wearing Cheongsam to work but isn't it very rare? Same goes with the Indians and their Saree. Normally, you'll see the old people wearing it alot because that's their tradition. They're used to wearing it unlike the teenagers nowadays who wears t-shirt and jeans. The big question here is, why don't people especially young people, wear their traditional clothes to go out? Why?

That's because, the trend has already been set. Hollywood had been influencing many people through media, that wearing t-shirt and jeans are the not so abnormal way of dressing. People follow their culture because they had already conquered the minds of people, setting their mind how they want it to be. Only in some countries that you can see people still wear their traditional custom out but most countries would be following the western culture.

There are many different stereotypes, people will just label them as what they think other people are. While in the real world, not all cases are the same. Only certain, a small minority of the group.
